Mark will be on *CNBC’s Morning Call, today at 11:30 AM. Watch and listen first hand to what Mark has to say about Paris Hilton’s release from jail. Here’s a taste of what you’ll be in for: For the Ordinary, Jail Time Is Hell–For Celebs, It’s Career Heaven When The Famous Wear Orange, They Get the Green.
According to Image consultant Mark Stevens, expert on celebrity brands and corporate makeovers, “the smartest thing Paris ever did was drive drunk with a suspended license.” Why? “Because celebrities win when they do time. The coverage, the photos, the interview anecdotes…this kind of extraordinary coverage leads to deals and cash.”
While average citizens find it tough to find a place in society or even employment after serving time, a celebrity jail stint means non-stop media exposure, a flood of new business deals, ‘street cred’ and ever-higher heights of fame. Even more than rehab, going to jail is the big time if served by celebrities. It is not the same as it is for a no-name Jane or Joe. Stars don’t face the same threats and degradation; they are not typically cavity searched or put into the general prison population. As for Paris, “I expect she’ll find doing time “hot” and seek even more — more cameras, more spotlights, more jail time, more publicity,” says Stevens.
“The lesson for celebrities who are fading, boring and on the rise is: Do time. There’s nothing so powerful as donning prison orange to increase the flow of green,” says Stevens. “There is no doubt that Paris behind bars will only enhance her stature.
WARNING: The prison tactic is not recommended for politicians. Scooter Libby and Tom Delay’s mug shot will never compare to Paris Hilton’s. Politicos don’t improve their position or future prospects with investigations, conviction or scandal, since most Americans assume that politicians are most deserving of jail time anyway.
FASHION TIP: Don’t be surprised when you see this Fall’s hottest looks: one-piece jumpers, stripes and orange as the new black!
