What’s all this SEO stuff about anyway?
October 16th, 2006MSCO’s traffic is up 118% since I joined the company and started our new SEO program. Can SEO help your website? It’s kind of like asking if you need to use deodorant before a date. If you have to ask then the answer was yes and you should have learned that a long time ago.

This page will show you up to the minute how my SEO efforts are working for MSCO . Our SEO efforts began in mid-May of 2006. You can see that the traffic on the site has steadily increased since that time.
Notice that the site started receiving more traffic immediately after the SEO effort began. Can we do that for your web site? I can’t say for sure but most likely we can improve what’s happening to your traffic.
There are other ways to measure the improvements to the site traffic:

Is there any special techniques that can be used to optimize a wordpress blog on my server for SEO. One issue I see is no way to change the title tags on each page, where it seems to take the blog name for the home page.
I have several hundred 600+ inbound links.
I have pinged Technorati manually and used pingoat as well as pingomatic every time I add a new blog.
There is plenty of content, about 30 articles.
What else can I do? What else should I do to optimize my blog?

Amari,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you’re off to an excellent start. We use Wordpress here and use a plugin called “Wordpress Multi URI Ping” http://mani.wordpress.com. It covers the pings for us automatically. We also ping the list at the end of this post.
I’ll assume that you are regularly updating the posts on the blog, every 2 or 3 days. The other main recommendation I have is for you to post comments on other blogs. That will increase your traffic organically which is exactly what Technorati, Google, etc. are looking for.
Please feel free to contact me directly: chris at msco dot com if you would like to discuss your SEO needs further.
Good Luck,
Chris

SEO for MSCO November UPDATE:
I’m pleased with the growth of the site, but we haven’t broken into that coveted 100,000 Alexa traffic rank- Yet. I’ve had a secret target of breaking into the 100,000 by year’s end. (Please don’t tell Mark, it’s a secret!) I’m going to try a few more ideas to make that happen, but the BtoB arena tends to slow at year’s end so I’m hoping I can make it happen. This week’s average of 126,819 is very encouraging. I just need a few hundred links to the blog and then…
